5 Artists with baller ambitions

Many artists coming from the urban spectrum grew up in an urban lifestyle. No doubt sports were part of that. That’s why it’s not that crazy some of them even had basketball ambitions, of which some got a chance. We listed a couple of examples for you:

1. Playboi Carti

Playboi Carti mentioned in an interview with Fader that before getting into the rap game, he  was a hoop star with hoop dreams’. He used to play on a regular base and claimed to be quite good at it.

2. 2 Chainz

2 Chainz played basketball during his high school and college times. ESPN even did an article about his style as a basketballer. James Gwyn, his old coach, says: ‘He was very deceptive and had a unique style because all you saw was arms and legs. He had good ball control but looked a little unorthodox.’

3. The Game

The Game is how we now know him, but he used to be Jayceon Taylor, a high school kid that got a scholarship for playing ball. He used to play alongside future NBA stars such as Baron Davis and Tyson Chandler.

4. Nelly

Nelly has always been passionate about basketball, ever since he was young. When he was in high school, the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates showed interest in him. In 2004 he even bought into the NBA’s expansion Charlotte Bobcats as a partial owner.

5. Master P

Master P used to be all about ball before a knee injury forced him out and gave him time to focus on music. But even after his rap career launched, he still earned try-outs at the Raptors and Hornets.
