Best Attendance in the NBA

Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the United States. And, according to ESPN, basketball is now even the most popular sport among the youth. Therefore, it would seem like there would be a lot of spectators at every NBA game. The question would be, which teams have the best and which teams have the worst average attendance in the NBA?

Best attendance

5. Dallas Mavericks – 19.755

4. Toronto Raptors – 19.822

3. Philadelphia 76ers – 20.551

2. Cleveland Cavaliers – 20.562

1.  Chicago Bulls – 20.611

It might be surprising that the Chicago Bulls have such a high average attendance, as they are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference. Furthermore, though the Warriors are the reigning champions of the NBA, their average amount of spectators is only the 7th best in the league. Last season, the New York Knicks were in the top five as well, with 19.774 visitors per game, but this number has gone down to 19.329 visitors. The new team in the top five are the 76ers. It is clear that their fans have embraced ‘The Process. Last season, on average, there were only 17.330 fans per home game, but this season that amount went up to 20.551.

Worst attendance

5. New Orleans Pelicans – 16.240

4. Memphis Grizzlies – 15.873

3. Brooklyn Nets – 15.783

2. Indiana Pacers – 15.623

1. Atlanta Hawks – 14.006

Though the attendance rate for the New Orleans Pelicans has gone up since last season (16.173 to 16.240), they are now in the bottom five of the worst average attendance per team. All other teams in the bottom five, have seen their numbers drop during this season.

Since last season, the Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves and the Denver Nuggets have seen their attendance numbers rise above 16.000 per game, where they were below 16.000 (and the Timberwolves and the Nuggets even below 15.00 per game). That means

Of course, all teams have only played between 25 and 30 home games this season, which means they have plenty of time to get more fans to their arena, before they have played all 41 home games this season.
