Movies to look forward to in 2018

With March Madness ending and spring hopping along, it’s time to look ahead to this year’s much anticipated movie season. From the return of Star Wars, to the long-awaited sequel of the Incredibles, it’s fair to say that there are a lot of movies to look forward to in the coming months.

Here’s a look at five movies we just can’t wait to see!

1. Ready Player One

Spielberg is back! After taking an extended leave of absence from sci-fi movies, one of the world’s best producers, Steven Spielberg, has finally returned with his much anticipated adaptation of the book, Ready Player One. The colourful blend of virtual reality and pop-culture references should make for a movie we’ve never seen, as it aims to attract an audience of a wide range of ages. The story follows a young orphan named Wade Watts. Living in an overpopulated future, Wade spends all of his time in a virtual world, the Oasis, where he is thrust into a quest that will determine the future of the game and the world. Widely considered a pioneer of escapist films, Spielberg looks to turn back the clock and put some of his old magic on display for a new generation and younger audience.

2. Avengers: Infinity War

Never before has Marvel attempted a movie with such a star-studded cast. Some say it’s the most ambitious superhero movie of all time while others fear it’s a recipe for disaster. One thing is clear, there are many questions surrounding the latest Marvel movie, and that just makes it so much more exciting!  Will the Russo brothers be able to tie the whole Marvel cinematic universe into one film? Will Thanos live up the the hype of the all-powerful villain we’ve been led to believe he is? Will the world’s mightiest superheroes be able to work together, without it feeling forced? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

3. Deadpool 2

Marvel’s only red band superhero is back as Ryan Reynolds suits up again to thrill audiences with his superhuman strength and wise-cracks! And if you’ve seen the first movie, then you know this isn’t for kids. Viewers will no doubt feel even closer to the vigilante because this film again breaks the fourth wall. Reynolds’ monologues invite the audience to engage and feel part of the experience. Legendary actor, Josh Brolin, is sure to add value as Deadpool’s nemesis and the evil villain.

4. Solo: A Star Wars Story

Han Solo is back! And alive! Although I’m still not totally convinced by any Star Wars movies created after 1983, the Solo film could be the one to change my mind, and yours. The second of two stand-alone Star Wars movies, Solo looks to match the success of it’s predecessor, Rogue One. Co-written by The Empire Strikes Back writer, Lawrence Kasden, fans are excited to see if he can inject some of the flair that made his earlier work the highest rated Star Wars movie ever. With Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) playing Lando Calrissian and Emilia Clarke’s addition to the cast, the film aims to attract a newer audience, to go along with the already huge fanbase.

5. Incredibles 2

The new Incredibles film marks yet another highly anticipated sequel and it’s taken almost two full decades to be released! Finally though, after a long wait, our favourite superhero family is returning to the big screens. Unlike in the first film, the sequel will see a female playing the lead hero, as Mr. Incredible is forced to deal with the chaos that is parenthood. With the emergence of Jack-Jack’s powers and the comeback of the world famous fashion icon, Edna Mode, Incredibles 2 looks to shake up traditional role dynamics while providing audiences with familiar faces we loved from the first time around.

Stay tuned to see which of the much hyped features will be the blockbuster of 2018!
