Time-out with Akeel Eduardo

Akeel Eduardo was born on St. Maarten and grew up in Eindhoven. He was 16 when he started playing basketball at Almonte. He continued to play there for three seasons, after which he got offered a contract by BSW. Eduardo played there for 5 seasons, before he made the switch to Apollo Amsterdam.

What is your pre-game ritual?

I like to train in the gym before the game starts. There, I always do some light and explosive exercices.

Do you have a favorite song you like to listen to before a game?

I don’t have one favorite song i constantly listen to, but I like to listen to hiphop/trap before a game. That kind of music gets me hyped.

Who is your biggest example/idol and why?

My mom is my biggest idol. She has left everything to move to the Netherlands so her son could have a better future. I am eternally grateful to her.

Which fashion trend is a big no-go for you?

I’m pretty creative so I can appreciate certain trends pretty fast. But leather pants and dresses for guys will aways be a no-go for me.

What is your favorite fashion brand?

Of course, there are a lot of high-end brands I can mention. To differ from that I think Levi 501 jeans and Converse Allstars are timeless. I really like Acne Studios as well.

To which music genre/artist do you like to listen?

I like to listen to a whole lot of different genres. From rap, dancehall, reggae to techno. I mostly listen to artists like Migos, Future, J. Cole, DVS1, Len Faki, Remco Beekwilder and many more.

What is your favorite holiday destination?

St. Maarten. There’s no place like home!

What is your guilty pleasure?

Ben and Jerry Cookie Dough!

What item can’t be missed from your wardrobe?

The Yeezy 350 v2 Blue Tint.

What is your favorite basketball movie?

Space Jam.

How do you stay in shape?

Next to playing basketball every day, i work out multilple times a week. When i work out i mainly focus on core, stability and explosiveness.
